Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The hotel aspires to take actions to reduce their impact on the local environment through saving water and reducing electrical use, and providing assistance to underprivileged locals.

Via Contorno Hotel also takes actions to try and help the local community. They now regularly donate various items (such as linen, toys, mattresses, clothes and furniture) to many local groups in need.

One institution is called ASSOPOC (Associação dos Protetores dos Pobres da Crucilândia) which assists about 150 people such as elderly, children and people with disabilities. Via Contorno Hotel has donated household appliances on July and September 2008, and they also contribute monthly with R$200,00 in the Association energy bill. The other institution is "PONTO DO ENCONTRO" in Betim city, which the host knows the work and visit whenever she can, donating uniforms and bed linen.

They believe that reducing electrical energy consumption does not have to mean reducing your comfort. They strive to provide information about this to all guests, especially on how they can reduce their own waste and electricity usage.
