Belo Horizonte Accommodation Hotel Metropole Sustainability

Valéria Bonfim

Having graduated in Tourism from PUC (a Catholic university), Valeria has been working at Metropole Hotel for three and a half years in the sales department. She is in charge of following the client's entire hotel experience, from the booking to the check-out.

She is considered a key person in the hotel since she performs various activities in the establishment. She also says that the hotel team is very experienced, as a good part of the staff has been working here for over ten years. Many of the customers are known by their names.

Valeria also provides information to the guests about the city, such as artistic attractions. Because of her passion for the theatre, she recommends every traveller to take some time and go to a theatre production. That's why she usually indicates places like Palácio das Artes (Palace of Arts) and Teatro da Cidade, where you can watch spectacles in Belo Horizonte. She also has great recommendations on places to eat in Belo Horizonte.

Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

We are working on conserving a part of the remaining architectural and cultural heritage of Belo Horizonte from the 40's.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

The building in which the Hotel Metrópole is installed is considered a "Municipal Cultural Heritage," and brings together all the charm of art-deco from the 40's.

Despite the fact that the centre is undergoing a revitalization and transformation process, the Metropole Hotel retains the facade and some of the characteristics of the historical building. The intent is to preserve the characteristics that refer to a very special time of the city, an era of urban renewal (from 1930). Even though it has been renovated, the building remains prominent in the street's landscape by its characteristics from more than sixty years ago. This is a very important fact, since many historical constructions have been demolished-the Cine Metrópole, for instance.

In addition, the hotel designed by Romeo de Paoli, tries to maintain not only the architectural features (through constant monitoring), but also the tradition, the hospitality and closeness to customers, typical "mineiro" features.
