Caraça Full day
Considered a wildlife sanctuary, having an architectural complex of historical and cultural priceless value, includes the Nossa Senhora Mãe dos Homens sanctuary and old college eighteenth century, they passed by important personalities in the history of Brazil, as the Presidents of the Republic Afonso Pena, Arthur Bernardes. Founded in 1774 by Irmão Lourenço, the Caraça Sanctuary was donated by Dom João VI and the Missionários Lazaristas. There were built the first seminar and the first neo-Gothic church in Brazil, worked as a boarding school, closing their doors in 1968, according to a devastating fire that destroyed their facilities. In 1978, an agreement was signed with the Fundação Brasileira de Conservação da Natureza, and in 1982, with the Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento de Florestas (now IBAMA), when the former seminary received the designation of Natural Park. This agreement, however, lasted only about five years, returning the responsibility of their owners. In 1994, Caraça became a Private Natural Heritage Reserve, consolidating its role as a religious and ecological sanctuary. Among the attractions of the park stand out waterfalls, rivers, lakes and caves, accessible by trail, and a diversity of plants and animals around the shrine.
